The Citizenship Study Guide

This study guide is a textual reproduction of Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship, ©Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada, represented by the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, 2012 Ci1-11/2012E-PDF ISBN 978-1-100-20117-7, which is the official study guide published by the Government of Canada and this reproduction has not been produced in affiliation with, or with the endorsement of the Government of Canada.

There are ten chapters to Discover Canada’s study guide from which questions will be drawn and on which you will be tested for the Canadian citizenship test:

  • Rights and Responsibilities
  • Federal Elections
  • Who We Are
  • The Justice System
  • Canada’s History
  • Canadian Symbols
  • Modern Canada
  • Canada’s Economy
  • How Canadian’s Govern Themselves
  • Canada’s Regions

Read each chapter; at the end of each chapter a practice test of all the questions relating to that topic has been added to test your understanding of the information.

Re-read the sections as much as necessary and take the practice test for the Canadian citizenship test as many times as needed until you have learned the material and feel comfortable with the answers. You can study the chapters in the order that Discover Canada has laid out in their book or you can go to any of the topics you choose. Some chapters have less information than others—preparing from those first may help you move more effectively to the more lengthy chapters.
